Mahabaleshwar is a tourist attraction with lot of magnificent places to
visit. Lingmala waterfall is one of the best attraction here. It is
located 6 km away from Mahabaleshwar city. One can reach to this
location through own vehicle or taxies hired at Mahabaleshwar. We pay an
entry fee of Rs. 20/- per person here but we can observe that the
location is really maintained well by the trust. A well built foothpath
leads us to the cliff opposite to this waterfall. There is a small
bridge on the stream of waterfall that can be seen on the way. After a
walk of 7-10 mins we reach the spot and what we experience is something
heavenly. It is a waterfall that falls down from a height of 500 feet
with a lot of noise made by its water. We can see a beautiful view of
resorts and hotels on the opposite mountain, giving a feel of northen
hill spots like darjeeling, manali etc. The waterfall falls in two steps
and gives a great view in all the seasons. It is a must see place
during Mahabaleshwar visit.
It has two locations 1) Duh (Small waterfall) 2) Dhabdhabha (Big Waterfall) .
There is one small and one big Lingmala Waterfall. From the main entrance you have to walk less than half km through the park to reach the smaller fall, and maybe about a km to reach the bigger one. If you go during the late winter or summer you won't find water flowing through the bigger fall and hardly any water flowing thro' the smaller one. Even then it is worth it to go to this place, since the walk through the park itself is absolutely wonderful. Also when you reach the bigger falls site, you will see a gorgeous view of one of the many M'war valleys.
The falls apparently gets its name from the look of a Lingmala (garland around a Lingam). The best time to visit Lingmala waterfall is July to October (or November) during monsoon season. During the entire rainy season it has a great flow of water. You may experience heavy rainfall and lovely clouds following you during evening.
